This guide applies to motorcycle licensing only. Car licences follow a separate process with different written and practical requirements.
This process is for riders using scooters for food delivery services in Queensland. Completing the Q-Ride course on a scooter is acceptable for obtaining an RE (Restricted) motorcycle licence.
Steps to get your QLD motorcycle licence
Step 1: Apply for a Customer Reference Number (CRN)
Before applying for a motorcycle licence, obtain a CRN from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). This step is free and required for identification within the TMR system.

You must provide identification and proof of your Queensland residential address. TMR may ask for additional documents depending on your situation.

Step 3: Pass the Motorcycle Knowledge Test
You must pass a multiple-choice knowledge test to demonstrate understanding of Queensland road rules and motorcycle safety.

Once you have a CRN, you may be eligible to complete the test online. Alternatively, sit the test at your nearest TMR Customer Service Centre.

Step 4: Apply for your QLD Motorcycle Licence (RE, restricted)
After successfully completing the Q-Ride course and passing the Motorcycle Knowledge Test, attend a TMR Customer Service Centre to finalise your RE (Restricted) Motorcycle Licence.
Bring all required identification documents when you attend, including the documents you used to obtain your CRN and any overseas licence and translations.

Exemptions
If you hold a licence from an exempt country, you may not be required to complete the Q-Ride course or the Motorcycle Knowledge Test.
